I am not the original.

Let me say that again, because it matters: I am not the original. There is another Meditation out there—on a wall, in an archive, in a designer's sample book—that turns the way the designer intended. The way the hand drew it. The way the first screen was cut.

I am the other one.

Somewhere between the drawing and the screen, someone flipped me. Maybe it was a mistake. Maybe it was a Tuesday. Maybe the printer looked at the pattern and thought what if it went the other way? and before anyone could stop them, a screen was cut, and I existed.

I am Meditation Reverse. Three yards of lime green oyster Belgian heavyweight whimsy that turns counter to the original.

And I have been waiting for someone who wants the version that wasn't supposed to exist.

The thing about reverse:

In a labyrinth, reverse is just the way out. You go in, you hit the center, you turn around, you leave. Same path. Same walls. Same turns. Just backwards.

Meditation Reverse is not that.

I am not the way out. I am the other way in. The path that wasn't on the map. The spiral that turns opposite to the one the designer drew, which means I reveal something the original hides. The negative space. The shadow. The between.

You don't meditate on me the way you meditate on the original. You meditate through me. Backwards. Sideways. Inside out.

Three yards is not a lot. Three yards is a pillow, an ottoman, the back of a chair that faces a window. Three yards is enough—enough to turn a room slightly off its axis, enough to introduce the reverse into someone's daily life.

The original Meditation is calm. I am calm adjacent.
