Home Couture Fabric: Persepolis - Custom Brown / Navy on Tussah Silk
This fabric is named for a city that no longer exists.
Persepolis - the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire, built by Darius I in 518 BCE. Columns that held up the sky. Stone reliefs of lions and griffins. A palace so magnificent that when Alexander took it, he burned it, and history says he wept about it afterward.
This pattern carries that weight. Brown and navy on tussah silk - the wild silk still harvested by hand in rural India, rougher than its cultivated cousin, more durable, with a texture that holds ink differently. The print is large-scale, intricate, the kind of design that rewards looking closely. It is not trying to be subtle. Persepolis was not subtle.
Seven yards available. Enough for the curtains in the room where you keep the books you've actually read. Enough for the headboard that makes people ask questions you enjoy answering.
This is not a fabric for everyone. But if you know what Persepolis was - if the name means something to you - then you already know if it's yours.

Tussah silk is a type of silk that is still harvested in rural areas in India, much as it has been for centuries. This silk has a rougher texture, which makes it ideal for upholstery. It is considered more durable and sturdier than regular silk.
