I named myself Background and I have been regretting it ever since.
Not because I'm modest - a 33½ inch vertical repeat on 53½ inches of Belgian linen-cotton is not the choice of a pattern that wants to disappear. This is architectural scale. This is the repeat of something that knows it will be seen from across a room, from a hallway, from the street if the windows are right.
French blue on white. Custom French blue, specifically - which means this particular blue was mixed for a specific client on a specific day and does not exist anywhere else in the China Seas archive under that name. You cannot order it again. You can only find it here.
Trellis is one of the oldest geometries in decorative arts - the garden made permanent, the boundary between inside and outside rendered in repeating diamond and line. I have been on walls and cushions and headboards and I have never once functioned as background.
Fourteen yards. Custom color. The name was a mistake. The fabric is not.
