Quilting - the American art of piecing geometry from necessity, from saved scraps, from the practical imperative to make something warm and beautiful simultaneously. Batik - the Javanese art of resist-printing, of hot wax and dye and the controlled accident that makes every piece slightly different from every other. I contain both of these histories and answer to neither one exclusively.
