CROSS CHECK II — Custom Navy on Tinted Belgian Linen/Cotton

The name sounds like a fact-checker's sign-off, and the pattern lives up to it: an allover field of tiny crosses, row upon row, every one in its place, every line accounted for.

Cross Check II is what happens when graph paper goes to finishing school — a small-scale geometric printed in deep navy on a warm tinted ground, hand-printed in the USA on Belgian-woven linen/cotton. It is, in the best sense, the navy blazer of prints: it goes with everything, it never raises its voice, and it has quietly outlasted every trend thrown at it.

At a 3-inch repeat on 48-inch-wide goods, the crosses read as a gentle texture from across the room and only confess their geometry up close — which is precisely why designers reach for it. This is the pattern that sits under a bold floral and makes the floral look expensive. It has already had its portrait taken properly: the photo above shows it on chairs at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in November 2023, holding its own among the peacocks.

Now the arithmetic, and we will be honest about it: there are two yards. Two yards is not a shortfall — two yards is a chair. One great chair, or a bench cushion, or four generous pillows, or the best-dressed headboard in the guest room.
