You've met my sibling in Watermelon. She walked into the room and told everyone to sit down. That's her way. We don't all have to be like that.

I am the same batik. The same Penang market at noon, the same memory of light on dyed cloth, the same hand-printed pattern on the same American-woven Suncloth. But where Watermelon demands the room, I absorb it. Deep navy into blue into blue into blue - I am the version of this print that knows what the ocean looks like after the sun has set and the tourists have gone inside and the water is still warm and the light is coming from somewhere you can't quite identify.

Four yards. Enough for the outdoor cushions that turn a terrace into the place everyone migrates to after dinner, the place where the best conversations happen because the fabric isn't competing with them. Watermelon starts the party. I'm the reason nobody wants to leave.

I won't fade on the first date, but don't leave me out in January. Even the ocean comes inside eventually.
