China Seas Fabric: New Lotus Batik - Custom Turquoise / Brown / Shrimp on Tinted Linen / Cotton

New Lotus Batik is the pattern that answers the question nobody asks out loud: what would happen if you let a botanical print go completely feral? The lotus flowers don't sit in orderly rows. The vines don't stop at the edges. Brown stems and shrimp-pink blooms push through a turquoise ground that reads less like a color choice and more like a climate — humid, equatorial, the particular saturated blue you see in shallow water over sand. The "batik" in the name is earned: the drawing has that wax-resist quality where the outlines resist precision, the ink pools where it wants to, and the whole composition feels printed by hand because it was.

This is a three-color custom on tinted Belgian linen-cotton — turquoise carrying the ground and the broadest leaves, brown doing the structural work of stems and shadows, and shrimp arriving in the flowers like a flush of warmth in an otherwise cool palette. It's an eighteen-inch repeat at fifty-two inches wide, which gives the design enough room to sprawl without repeating so fast that the eye catches the seam. Nine yards in two cuts from the same dye lot — enough for a pair of curtain panels, a daybed, or the kind of headboard-and-pillow combination that turns a guest room into the room everyone asks to stay in. The turquoise ground is doing something specific here: it makes the whole print feel backlit, as if there's sunlight coming through the other side of the leaves.
