Yes, I am printed on hemp. Yes, my name is Haight Ashbury. Yes, the colorway is called Vapor. I have had a great deal of time to think about this and I have decided it is entirely intentional and I am completely at peace with it.
What I actually am is a large-scale geometric medallion of considerable architectural ambition, handprinted in the USA on upholstery-weight natural hemp that could survive considerably more than the Summer of Love. These tile-like forms with their scrollwork and structural precision have more in common with a Moroccan courtyard than with anything that happened in San Francisco in 1967 - and yet here we are, sharing a name, coexisting beautifully, nine yards of Vapor on Natural Hemp waiting for the sofa or the drapery panel or the headboard that is ready to commit to something that tells a genuinely good story.
The sixties ended. Good design didn't.
