Buddakahn - Custom Pink / Brown

If the blues Buddakahn is Central Asian palace, the pink and brown is the same palace at sunset. The ikat medallions are identical — the same large-scale composition, the same feathered edges where the dye bled past the resist, the same watercolor quality that makes hand-printing look like something that happened to the cloth rather than something done to it. But pink and brown do something to the pattern that blue cannot: they warm it up and age it down simultaneously. The pink carries the light — it reads as blush in the paler bleeds and deepens to something closer to rose at the centers of the medallions — while the brown provides the skeleton, outlining the geometry with a color that reads as wood, as leather, as the tannin-dark edges of an antique textile that has been somewhere and come back.

This is seven yards of heavy Oyster linen — the same upholstery-weight ground as the blues version, woven in Europe and printed by hand in the USA. Seven yards at fifty-three inches wide is enough for the project the blues version couldn't do: the pair of club chairs in a room where blue would be too expected, or the banquette in a room that already has blue and needs something that converses with it without repeating it. Pink and brown is a combination that the trade understands intuitively — it's the palette of old Sultanabad rugs, of faded Venetian plaster, of things that were once vivid and have settled into something better. This colorway doesn't try to be young. It succeeds at being timeless, which is harder.

Have not been able to get any of this pattern for the outlet in years!!  The last photo shows the full repeat for planning.   Oyster is a heavy linen suitable for upholstery.
