Quadrille Fabric: Paradise Garden - Custom Pink / Gray on Belgian Linen / Cotton

In the 18th century, Europe fell in love with a country it had never visited.

The China that appeared on wallpapers, lacquerware, and printed cottons between roughly 1700 and 1780 was not China. It was a European dream of China — assembled from trade goods, Jesuit letters, and the deeply wishful thinking of decorators who had never been east of Vienna. The pagodas were architecturally improbable. The palm trees were from the wrong continent. The peacocks, native to South Asia, had been reassigned. Nobody cared. It was magnificent anyway.

Paradise Garden is Quadrille's version of that dream: temples, palms, and peacocks in a custom pink and gray that exists in this lot and nowhere else. Handprinted in New Jersey on Belgian linen-cotton ground. 36-inch repeat. 54 inches wide.
