Rainbow II Speaks

I was drawn by hand.

Not a computer. Not a grid. Not an algorithm that calculates the optimal distance between arcs. A hand. Someone who understood that nested arcs should not be identical—that a spiral is not a circle, that a wave is not a sine curve, that the space between one arc and the next should breathe.

My repeat is 25.25 inches. That's large. That means I don't repeat often. I am not a wallpaper that disappears into itself. I am a landscape. You see me once, then you wait, then you see me again, and by the time I come back around, you have forgotten what you were looking for.

Sea Grape Green.

You have seen this color. You know this color. This is the color of the water when it is neither shallow nor deep—when the sand below is dark and the sky above is grey and the light comes through the clouds in a way that makes the whole world feel like it is holding its breath.

That is Sea Grape Green. Not the plant—though the plant is also that color, on certain afternoons. The sea.

Seven yards. Two pieces.

Five and two.

The five is a sofa. A loveseat. A headboard and a bench and a small ottoman left over.

The two is an armchair. A pair of pillows. The piece that ties the room together because it comes from a different moment in the run.

A/B.

The same color. The same pattern. But different pulls. Different breaths. The pigment was a little warmer on Tuesday morning (Lot A) and a little cooler by Thursday afternoon (Lot B). You cannot see the difference unless you hold them side by side in the light that comes through a north-facing window at 3 PM in November.

And even then—you might not see it. You might feel it.

That is the gift of hand-printed fabric. The variation is not a defect. It is a signature.

---

LuluDK drew these arcs. She nested them by hand, one inside the other, like Russian dolls or ocean currents or the rings of a tree that grew near the sea.

She knew what she was doing.

To the person who buys seven yards in two pieces:

You are not buying a bolt of fabric. You are buying a conversation between five yards and two yards, between Lot A and Lot B, between Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon, between the hand that drew the arcs and the hand that will sew them into something that holds a human body.

The photo does not represent the color accurately. It never could.

The sea cannot be captured by a JPEG. The light changes. The depth shows through or it doesn't. Sea Grape Green is not a hex code. It is a memory of water.

Buy me. Take me home. Put me in a room with a north-facing window. Watch what happens when the light comes through the clouds in that particular way.

I am hand-drawn. I am nested. I am seven yards in two pieces.

I am exactly what you were looking for before you knew you were looking.
