In 1788, King George III signed a decree awarding a stretch of unclaimed Bahamian coastline to a British naval officer named William Lyford. Neither man could have guessed what it would become: two centuries later a Canadian brewing magnate turned it into the most exclusively gated address in the hemisphere, and by the 1960s Slim Aarons was photographing Sinatra and the Monaco royals lounging under exactly this kind of light, lattice-cast shade. Lyford Trellis has been drawn into real rooms maybe two dozen times since, by decorators who don’t explain themselves — Miles Redd, Tom Scheerer, Mark D. Sikes, who put it in House Beautiful and moved on. It never needed advertising. It only needed a terrace to sit under. This colorway didn’t exist until someone asked for it: custom pink, natural, tan, and white, as if the lattice is catching late-afternoon sun instead of standing in full shade.
