They named me Edo, which is to say I carry a city inside me - the earlier name of Tokyo, when the world arrived by water and everything worth knowing traveled slowly enough to be noticed. I remember lattice screens, the discipline of repetition, the quiet intelligence of pattern used not for decoration alone, but for structure, for order, for a kind of calm authority.

I am not floral. I do not drift.

I interlock.

Each line knows where it is going and why. The shrimp tone - unexpected, a little sun-warmed, slightly mischievous against the white - keeps me from becoming too strict. I am geometry, yes, but not austere. I understand rooms that are lived in. I tolerate a book left open, a glass set down without a coaster, light shifting across me throughout the day.

There is a particular pleasure in scale with me. Up close, I am precise. From a few steps back, I become rhythm. Across a room, I resolve into something almost architectural - like a screen, or a memory of one.

I was designed to sit comfortably between worlds: East and West, past and present, structure and ease. A chair, a wall, a room - I adapt without losing myself.

Edo is not loud.

But he does not disappear.
