Buddakahn - Custom Blues

Buddakahn is a pattern people ask for by name and then wait. The design takes the ikat tradition — threads bound and dyed before weaving, every edge feathered, every form slightly out of focus — and scales it up to the point where the individual medallions become architectural events. At twenty-seven inches of vertical repeat, these are not the small, rhythmic ikats you tile across a row of dining chairs. This is a single large composition that unfurls down a bolt like something you'd find hanging in a Central Asian palace, if the palace had been decorated by someone with a Quadrille account and a sense of drama. The blues move through at least four registers — deep indigo at the center of each medallion, medium cobalt in the surrounding geometry, pale sky in the transitional bleeds, and the ivory linen ground reading as the lightest value of all — which gives the pattern a watercolor quality that shouldn't be possible on a heavy linen and yet here it is.

This is a hundred-percent heavy Oyster linen, which means upholstery. Not drapery, not pillows — this ground cloth was woven to be sat on, stretched over frames, and used hard. Hand screen-printed in the USA on European-woven cloth, fifty-three inches wide. Five yards hasn't been available at outlet prices in years, and five yards of Buddakahn on heavy linen is exactly enough for the pair of chairs that becomes the reason people walk into the room and don't leave. When this is gone, you'll be waiting again.

Have not been able to get any of this pattern for the outlet in years!!  The last photo shows the full repeat for planning.   Oyster is a heavy linen suitable for upholstery.
