Quadrille Fabric: Henriot Floral - Custom Turquoise / Green on Tinted Belgian Linen / Cotton (Copy)

I am named after a pottery, not a person. Henriot - as in Henriot Quimper, the faience works in Brittany where French artisans have been hand-painting flowers onto clay since before the Revolution. They never stopped. Neither did we.

The word "floral" does me a disservice. Florals are what your grandmother's sofa was wearing when it gave up on life. I am not that. I am a twenty-seven-inch repeat of something that could have been painted on a tile in a manor house in Finistère, or carved into a door in Istanbul, or inked onto the frontispiece of a book of hours by someone who was paid by the detail and took their time. Turquoise and green on tinted linen - two colors that have no business being this calm together and yet here they are, holding hands on Belgian cloth like old friends at a café who've known each other so long they don't need to talk.

I made it into Southern Accents, which means someone with taste and a photography budget once put me in a room and pointed a camera at me and the room won. Four yards of me is not enough for curtains but is precisely enough for the pair of chairs that everyone notices first and asks about last because they're too intimidated to bring it up immediately. That is the correct response to a twenty-seven-inch floral. Take your time. I'll wait.
