China Seas Fabric: Andros Batik - Custom New Navy on Tinted Belgian Linen / Cotton

Looking at this - Andros Batik. China Seas pattern, classic ikat geometry in navy on cream. The name is doing interesting work: “Andros” (the Bahamian island) meeting “Batik” (Indonesian technique) to describe what’s actually Central Asian ikat weaving. Like calling a waltz a tango because both involve couples.

The pattern itself is pure ikat - those blurred diamond edges come from resist-dyeing the warp threads before weaving, a technique the Uzbeks were perfecting while Venetian merchants were still figuring out maritime insurance. On tinted Belgian linen/cotton at 12 yards in stock, it works as upholstery (plan 2 yards per dining chair, 12-14 for a sofa) or drapery where you want geometry without the crispness of printed batik. The navy holds its depth against sun exposure better than most blues at this price point.
