The ikat patterns of coastal Bali were never meant to sit still. They were woven as ceremonial cloths — geringsing, endek, songket — and the deliberate irregularities in the warp-and-weft were not mistakes but proof that human hands had been involved in something sacred. China Seas translated that textile vocabulary onto paper, hand-screened in the USA with a 25-inch repeat that gives the stylized forms room to breathe across a wall. Twenty yards at 24" printed width on 27" untrimmed paper is a small room done properly, or a single wall done unforgettably.
