China Seas Fabric: Bali Hai - Custom Leaf Green on Tinted 100% Linen

This is the unicorn.

Bali Hai is the pattern that shows up in design magazines often enough that interior designers have stopped explaining what it is and simply specify it. It has been doing this for years - appearing in rooms that know exactly what they're doing, doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

The appeal is structural. The vertical ikat columns create strong directionality without rigidity - the resist-dyed edges doing their characteristic soft-focus work, the leaf green reading differently depending on the light in the room and the hour of the day. On 100% European linen, handprinted in the USA, the weight and drape are exactly right. This is a fabric that moves well and holds its position equally well.

Three yards in two pieces from the same dyelot: two yards and one yard. This is pillow territory - two commanding 24" pillows centered to show the full ikat column, or a bench cushion that stops people mid-room to ask where it came from, or Roman shade panels for a window that deserves better than what it currently has.

Three yards of Bali Hai in leaf green is not a limitation. It is an assignment. The right person will know immediately what to do with it.
