Quadrille Les Indiennes Multicolor - Custom Multi Lilac / Plum / Green on Tinted Belgian Linen / Cotton

In 1686, Louis XIV's royal council banned indiennes entirely - the printed cotton fabrics arriving from India were so popular they were destroying France's domestic silk industry. The prohibition lasted decades. Smugglers were fined. Weavers lobbied furiously. None of it worked, because the appetite for these large-scale, botanically exuberant, mordant-dyed prints turned out to be stronger than the law. Europe eventually gave up banning them and started making them instead.

Quadrille's Les Indiennes is a direct descendant of that tradition - an eleven-screen hand print, each color laid down separately, on 55% linen Belgian ground. Eleven screens. The lilac, plum, and green in this colorway work the way the original Indian dyers intended: each hue distinct, all of them in conversation, the whole composition landing somewhere between garden and fever dream in the best possible way. Nine yards at 49" wide means a full set of curtains, a generous headboard, or a sofa that makes every other sofa in the neighborhood reconsider its choices.

This pattern arrives rarely. When it does, it doesn't stay long.
